Bee Walk on North Meadow

North Meadow is yellow with meadow buttercups this week. I visited to carry out the monthly transect for the Bumblebee Conservation bee walk project.

We saw seven species of bumblebee on the bee walk, Red Tail, Tree, Buff Tail, White Tail, Garden, Early and the Common Carder Bee. In total we saw seventy bees, mainly worker bees, but also several new queen bees.

Lots of butterflies, including mating orange tips, small copper, common blue, green veined white, peacock and large white.

The grass was full of common blue damselflies and banded demoiselle could be seen in locations close to the River Churn.
