Bumble Bees

Bumble bees are of great importance to North Meadow, recent studies on pollinators of the Snakes Head Fritillary have shown that they are mainly reliant on the early queens of the Red Tail Bumblebee, Bombus lapidarious for pollination.

A group of volunteers have been regularly recording Bumblebee species on the meadow since 2012. To date they have recorded, Garden Bumblebee White-tailed bumblebee, Buff-tailed Bumblebee, Early Bumblebee, Red-Tailed Bumblebee, Tree Bumblebee, Common Carder Bumblebee, Field Cuckoo Bumblebee and the Southern Cuckoo Bumblebee.
