Dragonflies and Damselflies
The rivers bordering the meadow support good numbers of several species of Dragonflies and Damselflies, which spread out into the meadow to feed.
The most abundant Dragonfly is Brown Hawker which is frequently seen, often several at a time, around the meadow margins. Common Darter seen in late summer regularly, less frequently seen are Ruddy Darter, Black Tailed Skimmer, Migrant Hawker, Broad bodied Chaser and Emperor Dragonfly.
There are four common species of damselfly: Banded Demoiselle, Common Blue Damselfly, Large Red Damselfly and Blue-tailed Damselfly.
